I keep having the urge to run out and buy a pack of cigarettes this morning. I’ve decided to make a list of pros and cons for quitting smoking.
PROS:
1. I smell pretty.
2. I don’t want head/neck or lung cancer.
3. I can hug my boys without them having to smell my stinky smokiness.
4. I want to run in a 5K or 10K.
5. I can live my life without having to worry about where the nearest smoking area is or when I can sneak away to smoke.
6. I can exercise without becoming winded.
7. My teeth will be healthier.
8. My food will taste better.
9. I’ll have extra money!
I’m sure there are lots more, but that’s a good start.
CONS:
1. I have no immediate outlet for frustration/anxiety/stress.
2. I want to punch random people in the face.
3. I will no longer have smoking buddies, those instant friends you have when you’re the only smokers at a party…
4. People are much more annoying when I’m a nonsmoker…
5. I’ll spend extra money I save from smoking on food that is equally as bad for me.
6. I’ll gain 10 pounds from above-mentioned craptastic food.
7. Nothing better than a cigarette after a good meal or sex or while drinking a Miller Lite.
I’m really trying my best to stick to this quitting thing. There’s been a few if-you-look-at-me-again-lady-I’m-gonna-knock-you-the-eff-out cravings, nothing I couldn’t handle I guess. At least no one has died yet anyway. I just have to take it 1 minute at a time and hope I come out in 1 piece on the other side, and hope those around me do too.
Good luck on kicking the habit. My wife and I quit three years ago and haven’t smoked since. After seeing the prices now, I’m glad we quit when we did.
The cost for DumDum suckers for a couple months was well worth it, not to mention the added health benefits and a better sense of taste and smell. I never knew my homemade chili was that spicy!
Don’t worry about the weight gain – I gained some but it wasn’t much. Weight can be lost and is a small price to pay over more permanent lung damage.
